Story

The story of the Cosmopolitan begins in the 1980s, when a bartender named Cheryl Cook was working at a bar in Miami Beach. At the time, the most popular cocktails were drinks like the Martini and the Manhattan, which were typically associated with the "Mad Men" era of the 1960s.

Cheryl wanted to create a new cocktail that would appeal to a younger, more fashion-conscious crowd. She started experimenting with different ingredients, eventually settling on a mixture of vodka, triple sec, lime juice, and cranberry juice. The resulting cocktail was sweet, tart, and refreshing, with a bright pink color that made it stand out from other drinks on the menu.

The Cosmopolitan remained a popular drink in Miami for several years, but it wasn't until the 1990s that it really took off. In 1996, a character on the TV show "Sex and the City" ordered a Cosmopolitan at a bar in New York City, instantly making it a sensation among viewers. The drink became synonymous with the show's four female leads, who were often seen sipping on Cosmopolitans as they navigated the ups and downs of love and friendship.

The popularity of the Cosmopolitan continued to grow throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, as it became a staple of cocktail menus in bars and restaurants around the world. Today, the Cosmopolitan remains a beloved cocktail, known for its sweet and tangy flavor, as well as its association with glamour, fashion, and popular culture. Whether you're sipping one at a trendy rooftop bar or mixing one up at home, the Cosmopolitan is a cocktail with a rich and colorful history that continues to captivate drinkers everywhere.
